Wheezing

What is wheezing? Wheezing is a sound that resembles a whistle when your child breathes. It can happen often or it can happen at various times throughout the day.

Wheezing and asthma are closely related but not everyone with asthma experiences wheezing. Many different problems including colds, choking, allergies, exposure to smoke, or other viruses can cause wheezing.

Wheezing in infants could point to a more serious illness that should be seen by a pediatrician immediately. You should be able to give detailed descriptions of your child’s wheezing episodes (e.g. when you began noticing the problem, what it sounds like, etc.).
