Physical Injuries

The fact of the matter is that children love to play around, and unfortunately, play can result in physical injuries. Physical injuries range from bone fractures, sprains, burns, dislocated joints, swollen muscles, strains, ligament injuries, knee injuries, to deep cuts.

Injuries in children may arise from anything, but mainly happen through playing sports. As a responsible parent, it is important to make sure your children are wearing the proper gear when engaging in any physical sports. It’s also important to make sure your child stays hydrated with a necessary amount of fluids.

Children that are out of shape are more prone to injury. It’s good habit to teach your children appropriate warm-up exercises that will decrease their chances of injury. Playing sports or any other type of physical activity should always be encouraged as it serves as a way to maintain a healthy weight, among other benefits.

If your child suffers a soft tissue injury such as a sprain, then you can treat it using the ‘RICE ‘method, which stands for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. This will keep the swelling down and promote faster healing until you make it to our office for further treatment. Our board-certified pediatricians at Kids & Teen Medical Group will help rehabilitate your child’s injury.
