Eye Conditions

Most eye conditions are the result of an infection. The most common eye problem is known as conjunctivitis, which is more popularly known as pink eye. Pink eye can either be an infection or an allergic reaction. If pink eye is the result of an infection, it can be contagious. If it is the result of an allergic reaction, then the condition is not considered contagious. If your child’s eyes appear to be reddish or pink as well as tearing often, then they may be suffering from pink eye and should see a pediatrician as soon as possible. Infected pink eye may also be accompanied by a fever, sore throat, and runny nose.

Other eye conditions exist, and should always be seen by a healthcare professional to prevent more serious problems from arising. If your child is tearing more than normal, has red eyes, or has a lump close to their eyelid, then they should be taken to their pediatrician for a diagnosis and treatment to resolve the situation.
